Shining even brighter than when it opened after a $414 million redevelopment. Stockland Green hills looks to claim the title of Australia’s largest single rooftop solar system – for now.
Last month, the company celebrated its $2.7 million solar project. Since it was switched on between April and June this year, it has generated over 73,000kWh of energy for the centre.
The system comprises of 5,480 solar panels, covering approximately 27,000 square metres. The systems is on track to reach its target of 2, 773, 090 kWh per year. That’s enough energy to power roughly 300 homes!
Has it achieved what every installer of solar power wants to achieve – a decrease in peak demand? Yes it has, by 29 per cent. It has also cut down the demand of grid-supplied energy by 46.3 per cent.
This solar installation is just one of many “green” initiatives that have been built into this newly –renovated centre.
Stockland group executive and CEO commercial property Louise Mason said that this development centred around the idea that it provides clean, secure and affordable energy.
“We chose to incorporate a number of innovative green principles into the $414 million redevelopment, including free electric vehicle charging facilities, large scale rooftop solar and energy –efficient lighting and air conditioning,” she said.
“We also considered sustainability beyond the rating tools, incorporating a number of important community facilities and amenities in this redevelopment and we’re extremely proud to have Stockland Green Hills receive a 5 Star Green Star – Design (Retail Centre) certified rating from the Green Building Council of Australia earlier this year.”
