The good news just keeps on coming. Renewable energy is now a constant talking point – both in the home and in business – across the globe. So it’s been no surprise that we have been seeing a number of companies from across the globe incorporating sustainability targets into their business plans.

It’s not just one type of company, we have seen this trend of turning to renewable energy in businesses large and small. Brands like Westpac and Mars have recently announced their targets in Australia. Google, Apple and of course Tesla are already actioning the sustainability goals set for their factories and office buildings with the installation of solar or by purchasing renewably sourced energy.

Samsung have joined the renewable energy train, committing to transition their existing facilities, offices and factories in the US, Europe and China to 100% renewable energy by 2020.

How is this being done? You ask. They will be turning their headquarters in Korea, into a solar panel wonderland. They will be installing 42,000 square metres worth of panels – that’s about six football fields.

They aren’t stopping there. Samsung will be working with supply chain partners and top 100 companies to help set and achieve their sustainability targets.

Executive Vice President of Samsung Won Kyong Kim said “As demonstrated by our expanded commitment, we are focused on protecting our planet and are doing our part as a global environmental steward.”

With the development of new storage technology and an increased awareness of the environmental implication of more traditional energy source, this trend will only increase in the coming years.
